In what ways does your media produc use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our short media film uses codes and conventions of TV dramas such as Eastenders and CSI. In the shot that runs from 00:00:16 to 00:00:22 there is alot of empty space above the characters head, this is a developed convention and shows that the scene is 'cold' and unwelcoming, it also forshadows bad events that are about to occur. A panning shot is the first type of shot in the film, this type of shot is a convention of television dramas as is the 'over-the-shoulder' shot used when characters are in diolouge. A close-up shot of the door handle at 00:00:04 is not so much a convention of a TV drama but is more representitive of a thriller. We chose to use a shot like this because it adds to a dramatic mood we wanted to create. Another code we have endorsed is that the male character is wearing a shirt and tie but he is wearing it in an unkempt way, this hints to the audience that he is quite distressed.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our group have tried to represent a single parent family in our short movie. The male sctor is playing the role of a father who is leaving home and more importantly his only daughter. At the beggining of the film the daughter is seen talking on the phone, this represents what mood she is in and the fact that her generation of youths are familiar with technology.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our media product would be aimed at a teenage audience. We have chosen this age group because the protagonist is a young female and it is also a subject that many tennagers may have had to deal with.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We have attracted an audience by using a situation that is common in this age. People will be able to relate to the characters in the story.
Looking back at your perliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression of it to the full project?
I had never seriously used a camera to film anything before I started the task but I was confident that I could pick it up quickly. I have also learnt to edit movie clips, I found this very enjoyable and I look forward to doing it again.
